Quarterly News - October 2001

Dear Friends & Family in Christ,

We had an exciting trip to Nigeria this past July, with a group of 5 medical students from UT in Houston, my oldest son Stefan, myself, and Chris Threadgill who returned there for her 3rd time. Chris has been instrumental in helping administrate at the hospital, working with the Bible College students, and doing village outreaches. The 5 students were a joy to have along and some have expressed interest in returning again.

I carried in my usual load of medicine, and not even one bag was inspected. Praise the Lord! I did miss one bag on arrival to Nigeria, but it allowed me to return to the airport the following day to assist the medical students who were coming for the first time.

After arriving in Owerri, we began seeing the flood of patients and began doing surgeries: C-sections, appendectomies, hysterectomies and multiple biopsies for various tumors. We had an eye clinic every Wednesday that brought a flood of patients and pressed our optometry student to his limit. In the first village they were able to meet the local Eze (King in Ibo) and he fed us all. In the latter village we were able to preach a short message which 90% of the people (about 600) responded to the gospel and were prayed for. We are still hearing good reports from the village where Pastor Ike is planning to do a church plant with the new converts.

Our first weekend in Owerri we had a conference on the Presence of God that was a special blessing to everyone attending, including many who received Christ for the first time. The following weekend we traveled to Port Harcourt where I ministered to a combined congregation of 7 branches (over 1000 people) and ministered in personal prophecy to more than 30 pastors and their wives. We were blessed at each service we attended; God was truly in our midst. Thanks for ALL your prayers, I KNOW it made a difference!

Also while in Nigeria I had the opportunity to work on several proposals that will greatly aid in the preparation for our first HIV hospital in Nigeria. Pray that God will continue to work on our behalf in obtaining the necessary funds, so that we may get the medicine we need in order to treat the mass of humanity dying of AIDS in Africa. If you know of any foundation or church that may be able to assist, please let us know.

We are planning our next four week trip to Nigeria in late January, and we also plan to take a team to Mexico during the spring. If you or someone you know of has interest in joining us on either of these trips, please let us know.

If you would like to receive our newsletter by e-mail please let us know by contacting us at the following address: mmivelvet@juno.com. All contributions are tax deductible and should be made payable to Medial Missions International and sent to us at the above address.

Your brother in Christ,
Dr. Stuart Quartermont

Family News: We elatedly wish to inform you of the blessed arrival of our 4th child, a boy, Brytan Ceth (pronounced "Seth"). He was born Monday, August 27th at 6:38am, weighing 8lbs, 13oz, and measuring 21 inches long. Brytan means "prayerful" and Ceth means "appointed one." God is so good!
